As a part of my ongoing student loan saga, the Department of Education lowered my principal by over $9,000. Hooray!
Whether it is here to stay or not, I have no idea. I called as soon as I noticed it and they insisted that it was not a mistake. As it was explained to me, they adjusted the interest and principal payments.
Huh? That is a $9000+ mistake they had been making? I have been making payments for years with what seemed like no change in principal, maybe they are right.
More likely, they have made another mistake and in five more years, my principal will go up $9000 again! I did my due diligence, by talking to a representative twice. They can’t really ask for more. This puts my debt under $100,000. It is a good day!
